The POS (point-of-sale) hardware used by ALS is provided
exclusively by VeriFone. VeriFone provides POS hardware to more states for hunting
and fishing license solutions and real-time background checks than all other providers
combined. Working through a systems integrator like ALS, VeriFone offers data entry
devices, printers (impact, direct thermal, thermal transfer), and related peripherals
(stands, bar code readers), as well as a full range of support services. ALS and
VeriFone have teamed to create and support the POS software that makes our
solutions unique.
VeriFone is the leading global provider of electronic payment solutions for government and
health care markets, financial institutions, merchants and consumers. Since its founding in
1981, the company has shipped more than 10 million systems in 110 countries, and in excess
of 250,000 deployed in government markets.
From 1997 - 2001, VeriFone was a subsidiary of Hewlett-Packard. This enabled VeriFone to
leverage HP's worldwide support services, products and technologies to solidify its leadership
in design and implementation of e-payment solutions. In mid-2001, VeriFone was acquired by Gores
Technology Group (GTG). In 2002, VeriFone Inc. entered into an agreement with GTCR Golder Rauner.
Under this agreement, GTCR is the majority stakeholder in Verifone while Gores Technology Group
retains an ownership interest. This return to VeriFone's entrepreneurial roots has resulted in
a culture that promotes a sense of urgency and positions VeriFone once again as the undisputed
leader in the electronic transaction industry.
